With West Godavari Zilla Parishad Chairman Kavuru Srinivas being selected as an MLC candidate in the local body quota, all eyes are now on the prestigious ZP seat. West Godavari ZP Chairperson seat was reserved for BC and after the completion of the local body elections, the ruling YSRCP appointed Kavuru Srinivas as ZP Chairman, who was elected from the Yalamanchili ZPTC segment.
Maganti Ravindranath Chowdary, Mullapudi Bapi Raju, minister Karumuri Nageswara Rao and others held the West Godavari ZP Chairperson seat and were more popular. So, many ZPTC members from the combined West Godavari district were trying to get the prestigious ZP Chairperson seat.
Former ZP Chairman Karumuri Nageswara Rao was the MLA from Tanuku and he was appointed as Minister for Civil Supplies. Also, current ZP Chairman Kavuru Srinivas was appointed an MLC candidate from the local body quota. So, the present BC ZPTC members are making efforts to get the ZP seat.
According to the sources, though the West Godavari Zilla Parishad Chairperson seat was reserved for BCs, the ruling YSRCP is probably allotting ZP seats for BC women. Many of the BC ZPTC members are trying to test their luck and are approaching their MLAs for recommendations.
There are 12 BC ZPTC members in the district, of which two are Turpu Kapu, five are Setti Balija, two are Koppu Velama, one Vaddera, one Yadava and one Kshatriya. Koppu Velamas are urging the CM to allot the ZP seat to their community.
Similarly, several ruling YSRCP MLAs are planning to get the ZP seat for their followers, of whom Denduluru MLA Abbayya Chowdary is in the front row. He is making vigorous efforts to appoint his follower and Pedapadu Mandal ZPTC member Ghanta Padma Shri, who is the wife of industrialist Ghanta Prasada Rao.
The combined West Godavari ZP Chairman Kavuru Srinivas will resign from his post after the official announcement of the local body quota MLC by the Election Commission. Meanwhile, MLAs are planning to meet Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to discuss the ZP seat before the start of the Assembly Budget sessions.
However, according to the sources, the CM is interested in allotting the West Godavari ZP seat to BC women. However, the ZPTC members Setti Balija Community are urging to allot for them. Kavuru Srinivas who belongs to the BC Setti Balija community will be vacating the chair, so, some of the ruling party people’s representatives and leaders are urging the CM to fill the ZP seat from the same community.
Denduluru MLA Abbayya Chowdary remembers the assurance from CM Jagan to allot the ZP seat to his constituency. Pedapadu ZPTC member Ghanta Padma Sri belongs to Koppu Velama Community. Her husband Prasada Rao urged the West Godavari ZPTC members to give a chance for her wife Padma Sri to assume the ZP seat.
