Brahmins register protest against attack on priest

Brahmins, under the aegis of Brahmin Ikya Vedhika, registered their protest here on Friday against the attack on a priest by a YSRCP leader in Someswara Swamy temple in Bhimavaram in the WG district.

The Brahmins took out a rally to the Tanguturu Prakasam statue and garlanded the statue at Lawyerpet rythu bazaar.

They registered their protest by raising slogans demanding the arrest of the accused. They submitted a representation to Administrative Officer Chiranjeevi in the Collector’s office.

Talking to the media, Eykya Vedhika V Prasanna Kumar Sharma demanded the government take steps to prevent attacks on the Brahmins. He said that the Someshwara Swamy temple chairperson’s husband Yugandar assaulted a priest of the temple. The sacred thread called Yagnopaveetham the Brahmins wear was snapped by the YSRCP leader while he was assaulting a priest in the temple, he regretted and appealed to all to condemn the heinous act.

The Brahman Vedhika leaders alleged that attacks on Hindu temples had taken place after the YSRCP came to power. Such attacks on temples and vitalisation of idols of Hindu deities were not good to the society.

The Brahmin leaders demanded that criminal cases would be registered against the person who assaulted the priest. Ch Prasad Sharma, Lanka Prasanna Kumar Sharma, Nelabhotla Subramanya Sharma, Gopal Sharma, Sujata and Janga Krishna Murthy Sharma were among those who participated in the protest.
