Cabinet scraps GO: 111, regularises VRAs

The Telangana Cabinet met for the first time in the new Dr B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat building on Thursday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

The Cabinet decided to scrap GO: 111 completely in the catchment areas of Osmansagar and Himayatsagar providing relief to the people of 84 villages by lifting controls on land transactions. Only HMDA norms will be in force in these areas.

Special measures will be taken to protect Osmanasagar and Himayatsagar reservoirs and they would be linked with Kaleshwaram Project’s waters.

The Telangana government will construct a ring road mainly for the supply of drinking water to 84 villages coming under the purview of GO: 111. Water for this will be sourced from the Kaleshwaram Project.

Health Minister Harish Rao said after the meeting that Godavari waters will be brought to Hussainsagar Lake after diverting all drainage lines.

In an important decision, the Cabinet decided to regularise the services of al VRAs. Harish said the Cabinet issued directives to CCLA Commissioner Naveen Mittal to formulate procedures for the regularisation of VRAs.

The Cabinet decided to reorganise the Health department by increasing DMHO posts to 38 including six in the GHMC.  Hyderabad will have one DMHO for every zone. Another 40 new PHCs were sanctioned in various mandals.

He said that the Cabinet has set up a sub-committee chaired by Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar to provide financial assistance on a caste basis and the cabinet has decided to provide Rs 1 lakh each.

The Cabinet Sub-Committee set up to recommend changes in the farm sector will examine advancing the Rabi season to prevent damage by untimely rains.

“Today, Telangana has become the largest rice-growing state in the country because of KCR. The plan is to harvest before a month to avoid losses due to untimely rains. The sub-committee will report on how to proceed,” Harish said.

The Cabinet decided to take stern against spurious seed sellers like invoking the PD Act and arresting them if there is prima facie evidence indicating sales of spurious seeds.

The 10th Telangana Formation Day celebrations will be organised in all the 119 Assembly Constituencies for 21 days from June 2.

The second phase of sheep distribution to the shepherd community will be launched in 15 days. The government also decided to guarantee the purchase of maize and sorghum.

The Cabinet sanctioned the Uma Maheswara Lift Irrigation Phase 1, Phase 2 in Acchampet.

Ten new posts were sanctioned in the TSPSC for better functioning with a focus on preventing malpractices like question paper leaks which led to the cancellation of recruitment tests this year.

The Cabinet also okayed the allotment of 23 acres to construct houses for journalists in Khammam.
