After a prolonged wait, more than five lakh beneficiaries throughout Andhra Pradesh can finally celebrate as a grand housewarming ceremony is set to take place on October 12. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will personally arrive at Samarlakota in Kakinada district, to inaugurate this momentous event. Under the State government’s flagship programme, ‘Navaratnaalu Pedalandariki Illu,’ the State Housing Corporation successfully achieved its target of completing the construction of five lakh houses by August. Presently, there are 5,24,850 houses ready for occupancy.
Davuluri Dorababu, Constituency in-charge for Peddapuram and Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Housing Corporation, is overseeing the preparations for CM Jagan’s participation in the housewarming ceremony.
Simultaneously, similar housewarming events will be held in selected layouts across all districts in Andhra Pradesh. These events will be attended by respective Ministers, Public Representatives, and District officials, and beneficiaries along with their families will actively participate in the celebrations.
According to officials from the housing department, the total number of house sites distributed across the state stands at 30.7 lakh, including layouts, possession certificates, and TIDCO houses.
Among these, BCs claim the largest share with 54%, followed by SC at 20%, ST at 6%, and others at 21%. The value of the land provided to beneficiaries ranges from Rs 2.5 to 5 lakhs per house site, depending on the location. The government’s total expenditure on land distribution ranges from Rs 75,000 Crore (minimum) to 1.5 lakh Crore. In some localities, the market value of house sites ranges from Rs 7 lakh to 10 lakh in Visakhapatnam, and from Rs 5.0 to Rs 7.0 lakh in the CRDA area and Samarlakota, among others.
As for the current status of house construction (excluding TIDCO), the breakdown is as follows: houses not yet started (1,28,386), below basement level (7,29,231), basement level (3,98,080), roof level (1,00,201), and roof cast (32,862). On this momentous occasion, Jogi Ramesh, Minister for Housing, extends his heartfelt congratulations to all officials and staff for successfully achieving the target of completing 5 lakh houses. He urges them to expedite the construction of the remaining houses across the state.
Special Chief Secretary of the Housing Department, Ajay Jain, played a crucial role in motivating officials to meet their targets on time. He appointed senior officers of the Housing Department as Special Officers, instructing them to regularly inspect the layouts and Jagananna colonies, taking necessary steps for the completion of houses. Additionally, he conducted comprehensive reviews with District officials to address issues at the grassroots level.
Dr. Lakshmi Sha, Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Housing Corporation, has been organising review meetings with all district officials. He has provided instructions to achieve the set targets while personally visiting the Jagananna colonies to ensure their progress.
