District Collector P Uday Kumar has directed the police officials to take all precautions to ensure free and fair elections. He asked the police to keep an eye on the criminals.
He along, with District Superintendent of Police K Manohar, reviewed the police preparedness for the upcoming Assembly polls.
He asked the police to focus on various incidents that had taken place at the time of the last elections and ensure that there is 100 per cent polling. As the elections are around the corner, check-posts should be set up and personnel there should be put on maximum alertness.
The police should prepare a plan to hold the elections peacefully in problematic areas. The police department should deploy social media teams to counter the vicious campaigns that take place through social media at the time of elections.
The officials must furnish accurate information to the people on polling schedule, he said, asking them to prepare a list of problems encountered in each Assembly constituency in the previous elections.
He asked them to conduct awareness programmes, along with Excise officials, for liquor traders and asked the police to pay special attention in preventing smuggling of liquor. A control room should be set to hold the elections in a free and fair manner and conduct special drives to increase the voters’ turnout, he said.
The officials should have a complete understanding of the election code of conduct and election duties.
The Superintendent of Police asked the police personnel to work with more efficiency to resolve the criminal cases.
