The Congress’s Bhongir MP, Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, requested the Union Minister of Railways, I&B and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, to complete the MMTS railway project connecting Hyderabad to Yadagirigutta immediately.
Kiran raised this question in the Lok Sabha on Thursday and asked the Centre whether it is true that it had declared that it would fully bear the cost of the project, and if so, the details thereof and the reason for the delay in completing the project. He also demanded details of the funds allocated for constructing the MMTS line to Yadagirigutta in the 2025 Union Budget and the amount required to complete the project.
Vaishnaw in his written reply said that the suburban rail services in Hyderabad and Secunderabad known as the Multi Modal Transport Service (MMTS) project costing Rs 1169 crore was sanctioned on cost sharing basis with the TG Government in the ratio of 1 (Ministry of Railways): 2 (Govt. of Telangana) and fully commissioned in March, 2024. The TG Government has not paid its share of Rs 279 crore, he added.
The following rail lines were included in the MMTS project. They are the Ghatkesar Moula Ali C-Cabin Quadrupling (12 km), the Tellapur–Ramchandrapuram new line (5 km), Medchal Bolarum doubling (14 km), Falaknuma–Umdanagar doubling (14 km), the Sanathnagar–Moula Ali C–Cabin by-pass line doubling (22 km), and the Secunderabad–Bolarum electrification project (15 km). These projects cover a total of 82 km.
A third MMTS line from Ghatkesar to Yadadri (33 km) costing Rs 412 crore was sanctioned in 2016 on a cost sharing basis.
