Cong protests as cops stop Sharmila’s convoy

Must read

YS Sharmila, on her way to assume the role of APCC president, faced a roadblock as her convoy was halted by the police near Enikepadu, just before reaching the city from the airport.
In a grand procession, Sharmila was en route to the city when the police insisted that the Congress leaders redirect their convoy at Enikepadu. Despite claiming they were headed to a function hall and not conducting a rally, Congress leaders and activists engaged in a heated argument with the police. The situation escalated, leading to Congress leaders, including Mahila Congress president Sunkara Padmasri, staging a protest on the road, chanting slogans against the police’s insistence on diversion. Sharmila’s vehicle remained stranded for some time.
Eventually, the police allowed Sharmila’s convoy to proceed on the highway. A Congress leader remarked that Sharmila, before officially assuming her role, had experienced the current situation in AP. In response to the police obstruction, Sharmila accused the AP government of practising ‘dictator rule’ and claimed that the Jagan Reddy administration is intimidated by the presence of the Congress party.
“I am the daughter of Rajasekhar Reddy, and I will not be intimidated by anyone,” she asserted. Sharmila questioned whether the police were treating the situation like the India-Pakistan border, declaring that the Congress would not tolerate any atrocities henceforth.
She expressed her willingness to go to prison for the sake of Congress activists and the party. Her comments quickly went viral on social media, with netizens observing that a new political game had begun in AP with Sharmila’s entry.
Meanwhile, the arrival of YS Sharmila, the younger sister of Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and daughter of late chief minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, has injected new energy into the Congress party. Congress leaders and activists, who were previously disheartened, gained enthusiasm with Sharmila’s presence. Slogans like ‘Sharmila CM’ resonated in the rally.
Congress leader Sunkara Padmasri told the media that the police would not have dared to stop Sharmila’s convoy if not for orders from the Tadepalli camp office. She criticised the police for stopping the convoy at the behest of Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, stating, “The real heir of Rajasekhar Reddy has entered the city and joined the Congress.”
A senior Congress leader predicted that Sharmila’s first entry was made dramatically amid chaos, and many such sensational incidents would unfold in the future.
