The year 2024 has been a tumultuous one for the Telugu film industry, with several high-profile controversies making headlines. Despite the industry witnessing some huge hits, the controversies ultimately overshadowed the successes. The year started with a controversy between Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram and Prashanth Varma’s Hanuman. The year has seen many big controversies that shook not only the Telugu Cinema, but the entire Nation. Here are some of the controversies that dogged the in the industry.
Mahesh Babu and director Trivikram joined forces for their third film, Guntur Kaaram, released on January 12, 2024. On the same day, Prashanth Varma’s Hanuman also released, but a controversy surrounding theatre allocations marred the occasion. The Hanuman makers had made an agreement with some exhibitors, but those exhibitors failed to honor the agreement and instead screened Mahesh Babu’s film. The Hanuman team officially complained to the Telugu Film Producers Council about the exhibitors’ failure to honor their agreements. Interestingly, Mahesh Babu’s film received negative reviews, while Hanuman premiered to positive reviews and eventually became a huge blockbuster in Telugu and other languages. Teja Sajja, an upcoming actor, became a star with this film and director Prashanth Varma became the most sought-after director following the film’s massive success.
