Bhukya Guru and Sunitha click selfie video which blamed land sharks for their plight

A couple at Suryabanda Thanda under Narmetta mandal in the district clicked a selfie video before attempting suicide on Sunday. The selfie video which showed the couple consuming pesticide was posted on social media. It went viral.
The couple, identified as Bhukya Guru and Sunitha, with tears welling up in their eyes, alleged that some persons have been encroaching upon their land. The couple inherited one acre and nine guntas of land from their ancestors. They alleged that two persons forcibly snatched the land from them. They accused the police of inaction.
The couple said in the selfie video that they had approached the police for protection and to ensure the safety of their children. But, the police failed to respond and stop the land-grabber. They broke down and said a former Zilla Parishad member B Jayaram and a few others were trying to grab their land. The couple said they were committing suicide as they were being deprived of their land. They requested the authorities with tears welling up in their eyes to ensure that land is transferred to their children.
The officials, however, sought to defend themselves by saying that they were on the job of surveying the land and verifying the records.
The villagers, on seeing the video on social media, alerted the police. The couple were admitted to the District Government Hospital in Jangaon.
The incident sparked outrage among people. The local people are blaming the police for “inaction.”
It is now to be seen whether the authorities will take action against the alleged land-grabbers.
