Education is the key to breaking cycle of poverty, says Tummala

Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao, emphasised that education is the only way to escape poverty. He made these remarks during the Minorities Welfare Day celebrations organised by the Telangana Gurukul Educational Institutions (Schools and Junior Colleges) in Khammam on Monday. The Minister participated in the event along with District Collector Muzammil Khan.
Speaking at the event, Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao highlighted the importance of educating girls from minority communities, noting that there was a time when it was difficult to send girls to school. However, today, all communities and religions are coming together to pursue education, he added.
He further mentioned that after India gained independence, the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru appointed Maulana Abul Kalam Azad as the Minister of Education. To honor his legacy, the nation celebrates his birth anniversary as National Education Day.
He also praised the Telangana government for its commitment to education. He noted that although India made progress in various fields, it has not yet achieved the desired level of advancement in education to compete globally. He emphasised that without strong implementation of education in fields like human resources and healthcare, future generations could face challenges. Recognising this, the government under the leadership of Minister Revanth Reddy is taking significant steps to improve the education system, he said.
On the occasion, the Minister spoke about the efforts to build Young India Integrated Schools with the District Collector providing suitable land for the project. He directed the officials to complete the construction work for the schools swiftly.
District Collector Muzammil Khan spoke on the occasion, stating that Minorities Welfare Day is observed in honour of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. He emphasised that despite attempts to divide the country along religious and caste lines during the early years of independence, leaders advocated for unity and the importance of education in overcoming poverty.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Chairman of the State Warehousing Corporation, R Nageshwar Rao, Khammam Mayor P Neeraja, District Minority Welfare Officer K Sathyanarayana, Principal of Khammam Minority Educational Institutions Sita Mahalaxmi, Khammam Revenue Divisional Officer Narsimha Rao, corporators, public representatives, teachers, students, and others.
