Forests in the Bhadradri Circle are being improved by the forest department. Around 361 km of trenches have been dug along the forests’ borders and 8,619 pillars have been installed in the last five years, officials said.
Lokesh Jaiswal, the Chief Conservation Officer of Kampa Pradhan Forest, inspected the wildlife revival works undertaken in Khammam, Kothagudem and Mahbubabad districts in the Bhadradri circle.
During the last three days, he toured extensively in forest areas inspecting plantations, nurseries, forest roads, fire lines, base camps, staff residences, waterholes, grasslands, check dams, stone embankments, wells etc constructed to protect wild animals and gave directions to the staff.
Iron fences have been put up along the 71 km boundaries of the forest. 9.3 km of walls have been built along the boundaries of the urban forest blocks. No gourd plantations will be raised in forest border trenches up to a distance of 819 km.
Around 5,214 stone embankments, 388 ponds, 88 small ponds, 314 check dams and 29 watch towers have been constructed as part of water conservation measures in forest areas. Around 369 km of roads allow forest officers to move freely in forests.
Fire lines have also been set up. Plantations were raised on 14,012 hectares of degraded forest lands. 469 hectares of grasslands have been established. Reforestation measures have been taken up in 43,980 hectares of degraded forest areas. 2,239 hectares of weeds have been cleared to conserve native grass species.
Out of a total 340 forest blocks, there is 100 per cent forest cover in 52 blocks, 80 to 99 per cent in 38 forest blocks, 60 to 79 per cent in 59 forest blocks, 40 to 59 per cent in 51 forest blocks, and 34 forest blocks have less than 40 per cent cover but have regenerated forests and new biodiversity.
