State Minister for Education, IT, and Electronics, Nara Lokesh, has announced the launch of the Skill Census program across Andhra Pradesh. He directed officials to expedite preparations for the initiative during a review meeting with the Skill Development Department at his Undavalli residence on Friday.
Lokesh emphasised that lessons learned from the Skill Census conducted in Mangalagiri should guide the statewide rollout, ensuring the survey is effective and easy to implement. He stressed the importance of collecting comprehensive data that benefits the youth throughout their careers, including information from both organised and unorganised skill sectors. The minister highlighted the ongoing efforts of the TDP at its central office, where skill training is provided using party funds to create employment opportunities. He proposed leveraging this model through the Overseas Manpower Corporation to train youth for international jobs. Lokesh noted that skilled workers are in demand not only in the Middle East but also in European and Southeast Asian countries. He suggested that localised training programs tailored to the needs of these regions could potentially create employment for up to 2,00,000 youth abroad.
To enhance employability, Lokesh recommended introducing foreign language courses, such as German and Japanese, in government colleges. He also emphasised equipping students with cutting-edge technologies and advanced skills to meet global industry demands.
Once the Skill Census is completed, Lokesh urged officials to create awareness among youth, encouraging them to pursue skill development training in sectors aligned with their interests. He underscored the program’s primary goal of creating 2 million jobs in five years and economically empowering poor and middle-class families.
Lokesh also directed officials to avoid duplication of data with existing records from SEEDAP, APSSDC, and NAP while compiling the Skill Census.
The meeting was attended by Skill Development Secretary Kona Shashidhar, Skill Development MP Ganesh Kumar, and other officials.
