Transport vehicles handed over to fishermen

Rajya Sabha MP Mopidevi Venkataramana and District Collector Vijaya Krishnan handed over a live fish transport vehicle, three insulated vehicles, and a three-wheeler to fishermen here on Monday.

A programme was organised on the occasion of World Fishermen’s day here on Monday by the fisheries department. A state-level program organised in West Godavari District Narsapuram in which Chief Minister Y S. Jagan Mohan Reddy participated and distributed units to the beneficiaries.

The officials in Bapatla made arrangements to enable all to watch the Chief Minister’s programme through live broadcast. After the Chief Minister’s programme, MP Mopidevi Venkata Ramana and Collector Vijaya Krishnan gave the live fish transport vehicle, insulated vehicles and a three-wheeler worth Rs 83 lakh to the beneficiaries.

“The steps taken by the government are improving the living conditions of fishermen. Various welfare schemes especially for the fishermen community are being implemented by the government. The fishermen across the state are getting huge benefits by the welfare schemes. The government is taking decisions as per the changes taking place in the aqua sector.” the MP explained.

The fishing profession has got recognition internationally and that is why World Fisheries Day is being commemorated on November 21 every year, the MP reminded. Mopidevi Venkataramana said that Aquaculture had been recognized at par with the agriculture sector, adding that the government would also give encouragement to that extent to the aquaculture.

District Collector Vijaya Krishnan said that the government is taking many steps to improve the financial conditions of fishermen. She asked the fishermen to take advantage of the units distributed by the government and develop further, adding that the government is providing subsidies.

Chirala MLA Karanam Balarama Krishna Murthy said that the government had taken steps to augment the sea products and appreciated the government for steps taken to protect the interests of fishermen in the state. The MLA said that the state government has initiated the development of the Chirala seaport and Nizampatnam seaport. He regretted that the fishermen were facing some problems at Chirala seaport and that steps should be taken to address them.

Joint Collector K Srinivasulu asked the fishermen in the district to utilize the welfare schemes being implemented for them. Fisheries officer P Suresh and fishermen society president Mamidayya was among those who were present.
