Dr Prasanta Mahapatra, former Director General, Dr MCR HRD Institute, on Wednesday said that government jobs, irrespective of their level, provide a vibrant platform to solve the problems of people and bring about a qualitative change in their lives, especially their weaker counterparts.

Speaking at the valedictory ceremony of the foundation course for 112 civil service officers, Mahapatra said, “While India has developed in multiple fields, the problems relating to poverty and illiteracy still leave much to be desired. He called upon the officers to carry out research in a systematic and scientific fashion in order to understand the socio-economic and educational problems.”

Mahapatra, who was the chief guest at the ceremony further said, “While huge data is collected by different wings of the government, it is not fully tabulated, analysed and used.” He then asked the Indian Economic Service (IES) and ISS officers to persuade the higher officials to utilise the data in its entirety in order to make evidence-based decision to enhance the quality of governance.

Addressing the gathering, Benhur Mahesh Dutt Ekka, Director General of the Institute & Principal Secretary to Government of Telangana said, “ISS and IES Officers are the backbone of policy-making in the country. India is emerging as a major global player. In this scenario, employees at all levels should put their best foot forward in order to enable different wings of government to play their role effectively at the global level.”

He advised them to work effectively and efficiently in order to measure up to the expectations of society.
