The TG Government has formally approved the design of the Telangana Talli statue, describing it as a representation of the self-respect and identity of the Telangana people.
In a notification issued on Monday, the government emphasised that the statue symbolises the sacrifices of countless individuals, particularly youth, during the long struggle for statehood.
The Telangana Talli statue is characterised by its design, with the figure standing on a pedestal of closed fists, signifying determination and the collective fight for rights.
The government also warned against any act of disrespect or misrepresentation of the statue and declared that insults, vandalism or mockery in public or on media platforms are a punishable offence.
Addressing the Assembly, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy highlighted the deep connection between Telangana’s statehood movement and the contributions of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, who celebrated her 78th birthday on Monday.
He extended warm greetings to Sonia Gandhi on behalf of the people of Telangana and expressed gratitude for her role in initiating the state formation process on December 9, 2009.
“Telangana’s struggle spanned over six decades, claiming the lives of countless individuals who fought for a separate state,” Revanth Reddy said. “Sonia Gandhi made the noble decision to initiate the official process for Telangana’s creation, making December 9 a historic day for the state,” he added.
The Chief Minister elaborated on the importance of the Telangana Talli statue, stating, “The aspirations of our people have long awaited respect. The Telangana Talli image has not been officially recognised until today. By approving this statue, we are honouring the collective identity of our four crore people.”
Revanth dismissed the notion that any single individual or political party could claim ownership of the Telangana Movement, asserting that governance should reflect the aspirations of the people. He appealed to opposition parties to avoid politicising the statue’s inauguration and urged everyone to unite in celebration.
The Chief Minister announced that the Telangana Talli statue would be unveiled at 6 pm on the same day and that December 9 would henceforth be observed annually as Telangana Talli Day.
“Let us come together to celebrate this momentous occasion and honour Telangana’s mother figure,” he added.
