The Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) of India, one of the country’s oldest institutions tracing its origins back to 1858, is set to celebrate Audit Week in Hyderabad from November 18 to November 22 at the AG Offices complex, Saifabad. This annual event is organised to mark ‘Audit Diwas,’ which is observed on November 16 to honour the establishment of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) and its significant role in public accountability and governance.
Audit Diwas 2024 marks the fourth celebration of this event since its inception. The tradition of Audit Diwas traces back to November 16, 1860, when the first Auditor General assumed office following the merger of accounting departments from Bengal, Madras and Bombay Presidencies, as per the Government of India Act, 1858. This year’s celebration aims to raise awareness about CAG’s contributions to promoting good governance and transparency.
In Hyderabad, the week-long celebration will feature a range of activities, including panel discussions, workshops, display stalls and cultural events such as quiz competitions and food courts. The initiative seeks to engage stakeholders and the general public, showcasing CAG’s role in enhancing government accountability and efficiency.
