The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection (HYDRAA) officials have inspected the alleged illegal structures in and around Ibrahimpatnam’s ponds, particularly focusing on buffer zones and full tank levels (FTL). On Monday, a team of the HYDRA officials, accompanied by local Revenue and Irrigation authorities, inspected several constructions in buffer zones of the large and small ponds in response to numerous complaints from local residents.
Previously, HYDRAA’s jurisdiction focused on areas within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). However, following the increasing number of complaints, the team has now extended its inspections to Ibrahimpatnam, moving beyond GHMC boundaries. Last week, the HYDRAA officials inspected Turkayanjal Masab Pond in Ibrahimpatnam constituency, and now attention has shifted to illegal constructions around the Ibrahimpatnam Pedda Cheruvu and Chinna Cheruvu.
Warnings have been issued to the owners of these illegal constructions, urging them to take appropriate action before the authorities proceed with demolition.
The HYDRAA officials emphasised their commitment to safeguarding the ponds, stating that any illegal activities would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
HYDRA officials have confirmed that a significant number of illegal structures have been identified in buffer zones and FTL of Ibrahimpatnam Pedda Cheruvu. Notably, a private function hall built in the buffer zone of the small pond, along with several residential buildings, were marked for action.
In Uppariguda, Charlapatelguda, and Pocharam, a guest house was found to be constructed illegally on the big pond’s land, and a private venture had sold plots in the area.
Officials are considering laying boundary stones at a section of the FTL area. After discussions with irrigation authorities, HYDRA A officials signaled that demolitions would begin soon, making it clear that protecting the ponds from illegal encroachment is a top priority.
