Making a mark for herself in the industry, Kriti Verma has been on the path of emerging herself as one of the most dedicated actresses. In an exclusive chat with The Pioneer, she gets candid about her career transition from being a GST officer to an actress, being an international performer, and more.
No matter what she does, giving the best has always been Kriti Verma’s motto throughout her journey. Well, who would have thought of a government officer transitioning into the world of showbiz? Let us tell you, it wasn’t something she planned.
Having always been a topper and a scholar in her college days, the government exam just came on its way, and that’s when she became a government central excise inspector, a GST inspector. But how did the shift happen? We wondered, and she says, “I had shifted to Mumbai like 3 months ago, and then one fine day for my job itself, one of my friends was going for this MTV Roadies Xtreme audition, so I just went to accompany her, and since I was there, I also thought of giving the audition for it, and since I knew I was this quite interesting person, and of course I was a GST inspector, and that was the time GST had only come to India. So I was the first one to take GST to the national level, and the Roadies audition happened. I went through all the rounds. It was the most successful season of all time, and I was one of the superhit contestants of Roadies (she giggles) and then got a chance in Bigg Boss.”
Basically, she does feel Roadies has helped her in a way to travel the path of becoming an actress. “I’d never thought of it frankly because I was in a job, but when roadies happened, touchwood popularity came at its own pace, and then Bigg Boss happened. I didn’t leave my job even after roadies and Bigg Boss, but then I couldn’t sail in both boats, so obviously I had to concentrate in one and try to make my own mark in the industry, and so one fine day I realised that I have to leave my job to get into this field so I can concentrate 200 percent.”
She doesn’t really feel that getting into the Bigg Boss house was an opportunity because she feels, “Nobody came knocking on my door with this opportunity. I had just done roadies, and I was definitely one of those who stood out amongst all the other contestants, and then I sent my audition video for Bigg Boss. I had to go through all the auditions and rounds to get into the house. I wasn’t a celebrity. I knew I am someone who stands apart from the crowd and that I got such a big opportunity because generally in BB there are people who are already established celebrities who come up with minimum guarantees that they would stay for 4 weeks or 8 weeks. But nothing happened in my case. It was all on me with my personality that people loved me.” And she further continues, “Life post-Bigg Boss touchwood has been very good, but since I don’t have any godfathers in this industry, I take life as it happens. I work hard every day, and whatever the mood may be, you have to show up. I get dressed, show up, and grab any opportunity that I get. I have done so many music videos; now I have done web series and been a part of a movie. I’m just another girl who doesn’t have a family background in this industry and is trying to make her own mark.”
Not just that, but her dynamic performances have graced events alongside renowned artists including Daler Mehndi, Mika Singh, Badshah, Yo Yo Honey Singh, and Neha Kakkar. Notably, her appearance in Zimbabwe for the T-10 Cricket League garnered global attention. But having been a part of a show like Bigg Boss, to an extent, the environment could end up lowering one’s morale. However, “Badnaam wohi hota hai, jiska naam hota hai, and mai badnaam as such hui nahi that my morale would go down. Recently, I did such a big show with Nora Fatehi, and only both of us were invited to Africa’s biggest cultural show as dance performers. I did a show with Salman Khan, Neha Dhupia, Prince Narula, Nikhil Chinnapa, and Rannvijay. After all this, how could I let my morale go down.”
And in fact, she goes on further, saying, “I’ll be going to Nepal for another performance in the new year, then going to Thailand. So yes, I am an international dance performer. I’ve also hosted the HT Most stylish awards alongside Ritesh Deshmukh, and I also hosted the Dada Saheb Phalke Awards. So these shows I’m getting because of my performance, dedication, hard work, being an outstanding entertainer and host, and the fact that I am typically a people’s charmer. I keep my audience entertained. I am a complete entertainer, and that’s why I’m able to grab these shows back-to-back and with big people. I complete and do these shows based on my ability as well. I am myself invited as a sole celebrity performer.”
It wouldn’t be wrong to say that her hard work and dedication have surely paid off. She has emerged as the new sensational face of music videos, and she signs off, saying, “I have almost done 30 music videos that have been released. Recently, seven music videos were released in one month, which is a big thing.”
