Veteran film director Relangi Narasimha Rao, who’s best known for making rib tickling comedies such as Dabbevariki Chedu(1987),Dagudumuthala Dampathyam(1990), Iddaru Pellala Muddula Police(1991), and Edurinti Mogudu Pakkinti Pellam(1991), has a knack for getting the best performances from new comers. And he did it again with up-and-coming actress Hindola Chakravorty. She starred opposite Yash Kondapaneni in Relangi Narasimha Rao’s 75th film titled, Oo Antava Mava Oo Oo Antava Mava.
“It was quite a journey,” said Hindola, who has been a part of several creative fields including theaters, modeling, ads, comedy, webseries, and now movies. “Absolutely proud to be a part of the Telugu film fraternity. Can’t thank enough to Chadalavada Srinivasa Rao sir for introducing me to the Telugu film industry, he is the producer of my first Telugu film (which is yet to be released), and Oo Antava Mava Oo Oo Antava Mava is my second film technically. I’m happy to have shared a screen space with such a respected cast. Learned so much from each and everyone of them.”
It’s important for actors to play characters that they relate to on a deep level because it makes it easier for the audience to connect with it as well. And so, when we asked the actress about how relatable she felt her character was to her, she humourously replied, “I loved my character in the film. Soundarya is a very challenging, performance based character. This movie is not a very regular go-to horror movie, it’s a completely different concept horror and comedy. I got to play many roles for one character. As far as how the character is relatable in real life, I have a devil mind deep inside me which I explored through this role (she laughs), otherwise I don’t want to encounter ghosts.”
Samantha’s sizzling performance in Oo Antava Mawa from Pushpa: The Rise has still been loved by the audience. In fact, people even call her the Oo antava girl. Not just this, actor Ranveer Singh had also said at Koffee with Karan that Samantha in Oo Antava is hotter than Katrina in Tip Tip. So on working on a film with a title of such a blockbuster hit, she said, “I was super excited when I heard the title of the movie from my producer Prasanna Kumar Tummala sir, already this title has become a word of mouth, and it brought some brownie points for the movie.”
Being a Kolkata-native girl, how did she land up in Tollywood? Hindola gleefully shared, “I am an opportunist! I always look for good performance based roles. I like to explore. I’m a multi-lingual actor. Honestly, Acting has no language. What connects an actor to the audience is the acting, not the language.”
Coming to an industry with no godfather is definitely not an easy quest. And this was the same for the budding actress too. However, being smart to understand things well, Hindola handled all of it with ace. But she did recall, “I have come across many casting groups and casting directors who wanted money in order to get me a character in a movie or series.”
The artiste is not here to settle for less, and confine herself to just one genre, or just one particular industry. She’s here to explore all, right from more of Tollywood to even Bollywood. “I would love to go for challenging roles. Would love to play a cop, or a very rustic character, even a love story,” said the wondrous artist, who was overwhelmed with the response that the southern audience had treated her, as she said, “Audience in the south are very warm and very loving. I feel loaded with love now!”
Going ahead, Hindola has a Telugu movie and a Bollywood single in the pipeline. However, without revealing much of the details she said, “I love to give and get surprises. I’m going to surprise you all soon with something. Stay intact with me!”
