Incessant rains have thrown normal life out of gear in all major cities and towns in the coastal AP districts and crops inundated in rain water.
The incessant rains, occurring since Tuesday night under the influence of low pressure in the Bay of Bengal, threw the normal life out of gear on Wednesday. All the roads in all major towns and cities and bus stations in the coastal AP district are inundated in one foot to two feet water. School grounds at many places filled with water and rain water entered into classrooms in some government schools.
The vehicular traffic on the Kurnool-Guntur national highway was disrupted as boulders fell on the road. Large number of vehicles got stranded either side of the Nallamala ghat road. The police and fire brigade personnel removed some of the boulders from the road and regulated the traffic.
In Nandyala many residential localities were inundated in the rain water. All the main thoroughfares were in two feet of water in the town. The educational institutions declared a holiday today.
The Hanuman Junction bus station in Krishna district was in knee deep water. Several colonies in the town were inundated in rain water. Road connectivity to several villages located in agency areas including in Buttayagudem, Jangareddygudem, Jeelugumilli and Polavaram mandals in Eluru district was cut off as the rain water was overflowing on the road.
Several houses in Tiruvuru marooned in the rain water and the dwellers were shifted to safer places. In Vissannapet in NRT district, rain water gushed into the classroom. The students were seen huddling under umbrellas in the classroom itself. Rainwater was overflowing on the Munneru bridge in Vatsavai mandal disrupting vehicle traffic at AP-Telangana border.
The Jagananna layout at Karagraharam in Machilipatnam mandal in Krishna district was marooned in two feet of water. Thick clouds descended on the RK beach road in Visakhapatnam and darkness engulfed the area even in the daytime and a few spells of heavy rain lashed out the area throwing the normal life out of gear. Incessant rains occurred in Nellore and Prakasam district.
YSRCP MLA and former Minister Perni Venkatramaiah saw some of the inundated localities in Machilipatnam on Wednesday.
Telugu Desam party leader Venigandla Ramu saw some of the rain damaged crops in Gudlavalleru, Dokiparru, Kavutaram and Vadlamannadu. As a precautionary measure, the gates of Hamsaladeevi beach were closed today. The Palakayatippa marine police did not allow people into the beach as giant sea waves adrifting the shore.
Moreover, paddy crops were badly damaged in the coastal districts. The plantation of paddy has been completed in lakhs of acres and the crop is now marooned in the rain water. The paddy crop would wither if the rains were not stopped now, a group of farmers at Avanigadda told the media. Official sources said that no rain related causality has been reported at anywhere in the rain affected district so far.
