Union Tourism Minister G. Kishan Reddy demanded that the BRS government should develop the original Hyderabad area. He said that development doesn’t mean laying roads and constructing flyovers in the ‘Financial district’ and ‘Hi-Tech City.’

He said that Nallakunta, Ambarpet, Gowlipura, Old City and Secunderabad constitute the original Hyderabad city and that development projects were stalled in basthis as the GHMC and Metro Water Works had no funds.

He said that works were stalled as the government was not paying the bills of small contractors in Hyderabad and that bills worth Rs 1,200 crore were pending, Kishan said.

Speaking to the media after examining works in the Old Ramalayam Basthi in Nallakunta on Sunday, Kishan said that the government is getting thousands of billions from Hyderabad city, but has allocated just Rs 30 crore in the budget for Hyderabad city, although it had a third of the population of TS.

He said that people are facing a lot of problems as the government is not providing basic facilities in basthis. People have been facing trouble during rains due to drains overflowing, Kishan added.
