BJP leader Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy on Monday threatened to lay siege to Pragati Bhavan if the State government failed to defreeze the accounts of beneficiaries of the Integrated Sheep Development Scheme. The State government, in the run up to the Munugode Assembly constituency by-poll deposited Rs 1.14 lakh each into the bank accounts of 7,600 Golla-Kuruma beneficiaries under the scheme.

Rajgopal Reddy, who unsuccessfully contested on the BJP ticket, organised a massive sit-in at Munugode to protest against the State government freezing the accounts of the beneficiaries soon after the by-elections. As a result of which, the beneficiaries are unable to withdraw even their own money from their accounts.

The government ordered the freezing of beneficiaries’ accounts on the pretext that it would distribute sheep to the shepherds instead of transferring money to their accounts. The government, he alleged, has been planning to take back the money deposited into the accounts of beneficiaries. Rajgopal Reddy, paying floral tributes at the State of B R Ambedka, staged a sit-in on the road.

The police took him into custody and shifted him to the police station. After being released from police custody, Rajgopal Reddy demanded that the government defreeze the accounts of beneficiaries immediately. He threatened to lay siege to Pragati Bhavan by mobilising Golla-kuruma people from all corners of the State. He called the freezing of accounts as nothing but deceiving people.
