State Planning Board Vice-Chairman B Vinod Kumar on Monday charged Prime Minister Narendra Modi with adopting double standards in regard to privatisation of coal blocks in Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). On one hand, Modi ruled out privatising the SCCL, and on the other privatising the coal blocks.
A huge conspiracy has been hatched by the Centre to weaken the SCCL. But, Telangana BJP State president Bandi Sanjay Kumar failed to see through the conspiracy, he said, adding that he is at a loss of comprehending the conspiracy.
The Centre has been encouraging corporate firms to derive benefit in the auction of the coal blocks. The Centre was denying them to the SCCL. Sanjay should first clearly distinguish between the privatisation and auction of coal blocks.
In the auction held on August 10 this year, a private firm was handed over the Koyalagudem Coal Block-III in Sattupalli, he said, asking Sanjay to take note it. He demanded that the Centre unravel the secret behind denial of coal blocks to the SCCL and auctioning them.
Vinod Kumar assailed the Centre for resorting to auction of coal blocks, which may harm the interests of 50,000 workers in the SCCL. Union Minister for Mines Prahlad Joshi said that coal blocks are being auctioned as per the Mines and Minerals Act of 1957 and wanted the SCCL to vie with private bidders to win the coal blocks in the auction. It indicated the conspiracy being hatched by the Centre.
