Krishnaiah urges Bhatti to allot Rs 20,000 cr for BC welfare

Rajya Sabha member R Krishnaiah has urged Finance Minister Mallu Batti Vikramarkan to allot Rs 20,000 crore in the budget for the welfare of Backward Classes. He held discussions with the Minister at the Secretariat on Friday.
He also appealed to the Minister to allocate Rs 4,000 crore in the budget to provide interest subsidy on bank loans granted to entrepreneurs belonging to the Backward Classes and Rs 2,000 to Telangana State Most Backward Classes Development Corporation. He requested the Minister to allocate Rs 2,000 crore to 12 Backward Classes Federations. He stressed the need to announce Rs 2.5 lakh for every inter-caste marriage.

Krishnaiah demanded that the government ensure prompt fee reimbursement for students belonging to Backward Classes, Economic Backward Classes on a par with Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes and Minority students. The government should increase the scholarships. The budget of the foreign education stipend scheme should be increased from Rs 60 crore to Rs 300 crore. He also urged the Minister to build permanent buildings for all 290 Backward Classes Gurukul schools which are now in rented buildings.
