Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, Minister for Endowments, announced that steps are being taken to restart the Krishnamma Harati program at the Krishna-Godavari Pavitra Sangam in Ibrahimpatnam within the next month. This decision was made during a Group of Ministers (GoM) meeting held at the Secretariat on Monday.
Minister Anam recalled that under the leadership of former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Krishnamma Harati was regularly conducted as a sacred spiritual event at Pavitra Sangam. However, the program was neglected by the previous government over the past five years. The Minister assured that the Krishnamma Harati would be resumed within a month, and instructed the relevant departments to take immediate action to restore the necessary infrastructure at Pavitra Sangam-Ibrahimpatnam, including roads, electricity, bus transport, and sanitation.
Minister Anam directed officials from the NTR District Administration, Water Resources Department, CRDA, Devadaya Department, Durgamalleswara Swamy Devasthanam, Police, Transco, Municipal, and other related departments to coordinate and ensure the smooth resumption of the programme. He also mentioned that the Godavari Harati is currently ongoing in Rajamahendravaram, with plans to strengthen its organisation further.
I&PR Minister K. Parthasarathy emphasised the spiritual significance of Krishnamma Harati and the need to resume it promptly. He suggested establishing a temple under the TTD or Endowments Department and developing the area into a major tourist and spiritual centre. He also stressed the importance of providing adequate security for tourists and devotees, urging the police to take necessary measures. Additionally, Minister Parthasaradhy proposed organizing special package tours to renowned holy sites in the Krishna River catchment area in conjunction with the Krishnamma Harati program.
Endowments Commissioner S. Satyanarayana noted that Krishnamma Harati was regularly held at Pavitra Sangam since 2016, but was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He assured that with the government’s decision to restart the programme, all necessary arrangements will be made on a priority basis.
The meeting was attended by NTR District Collector Srijana, Director of Fire Services Murali, Vijayawada West DCP T. Harikrishna, and other officials from the relevant departments.
