BRS MLA K T Rama Rao on Tuesday requested the Congress government to continue and strengthen the textile sector more as it has the potential to grow and compete with Tirupur cluster in Tamil Nadu.
He said in a tweet on X that he has been hearing stories of distress setting in yet again which can be disastrous for the sector.
“The homegrown talented power loom weavers of Siricilla have seen great growth & expansion since the formation of Telangana with the active support of state Government”, he said.
The crisis faced by the weavers of Sircilla due to lack of orders from the government was exacerbated by the huge drop in fabric prices in both domestic and international markets. Powerlooms in the Sircilla textile park also ceased operations from the first week of January. The downturn had begun during the pandemic and afterwards the increased cost of yarn and chemicals made production further unsustainable
BRS working president KTR responded to the news of the crisis coming on Sirisilla textiles. He urged that Congress government should also stand by the powerloom textile industry. While continuing the various programs started by the BRS government, steps should be taken to strengthen the textile industry.
