MLC Kancharla Srikanth said that Kuppam has become a hub for agricultural innovation with the establishment of the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in collaboration with Israel’s advanced technology.
Speaking at the inauguration of a three-day training programme on Tuesday, organised at the Horticulture Hub in Kuppam, MLC Srikanth highlighted the significance of the initiative. The programme, a joint effort of the State government, Horticulture Mission and the Embassy of Israel in New Delhi, aims to enhance scientific cultivation practices. Topics such as mulching, drip irrigation, advanced nursery techniques, polyhouse crop management and pest control are being covered.
The training programme scheduled from December 3-5 is being attended by 40 government horticulture officials from 12 States. Expert trainers are conducting the sessions through PowerPoint presentations.
The inaugural event was attended by Indo-Israel Embassy representative and Agriculture Attaché Uri Rubinstein, Project Officer Brahmadev, District Horticulture Officer Madhusudhan Reddy, District AP Micro Irrigation Project Officer Balasubramaniam, and Horticulture Assistant Director Koteshwar Rao, among others.
MLC Srikanth stated that hosting international representatives at the Horticulture Hub in Kuppam is a significant achievement. He credited the Chief Minister’s visionary leadership in establishing the hub in a remote region with advanced foreign technology.
Highlighting the hub’s contributions, he mentioned the development of innovative cultivation methods, which have positioned Kuppam as a national leader in horticulture. Srikanth noted that farmers who previously practised traditional farming methods are now cultivating multiple crops and achieving better incomes. He assured that the government is prepared to support various agricultural experiments for farmers’ benefit.
MLC expressed amazement at the grafting techniques demonstrated at the CoE, where multiple plants are grown on a single plant. He emphasised the government’s commitment to supporting farmers through the establishment of food processing units and a knowledge centre in Kuppam for the development of innovative agricultural practices.
