In a move to improve the quality of education and facilities in government girls’ welfare hostels in Telangana, Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari said that women All India Services (AIS) officers will personally inspect these hostels and stay overnight there to assess conditions.
Highlighting the government’s commitment, the CS said that Telangana has 540 government girls’ welfare hostels catering to students from SC, ST, BC, and minority communities. The inspections are aimed at improving education standards and ensuring the supply of quality food.
Addressing a teleconference held with senior officials on Thursday, the CS outlined the inspection plans. She said that in the first phase, 29 women IAS officers will visit these hostels to review the conditions there and propose measures to make the hostels more efficient.
Detailed guidelines have already been prepared for the inspections. The officers will evaluate key aspects like diet management, educational standards, infrastructure and overall hostel management.
The first phase of inspections will be completed by January 25. The feedback from these visits would be thoroughly reviewed for action.
The CS emphasised that the feedback will play a vital role in deciding future steps, including broader inspections involving AIS officers at all levels.
The teleconference was attended by N. Sridhar, the Principal Secretary of the SC Development Department and other senior officials.
