Former Vice President of India Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu has said that language and breath are most important for human life and life will not move forward if either of these two stops.

The former V-P was the chief guest at the 5th World Telugu Writers’ Conference held in Vijayawada on Friday. He congratulated the organisers for conducting the conference with the aim of conserving language.

Venkaiah Naidu said that language and culture are being passed on to future generations through writings and literature.

On this occasion, University of Silicon Andhra’s ‘Koti Matala Kota’ book was unveiled by Venkaiah Naidu.

He said that the commitment of the poets of those days who used to write on palm leaves and make copies at a time when there were no media was priceless. He said that there is a need for everyone to safeguard the language and culture and reminded us that the glory of our country is reflected in literature. It was hoped that not only the ancient Telugu with strong linguistic wealth and abundant literary wealth should be proudly displayed, but special efforts should be made to spread the Telugu language in modern ways.

Venkaiah Naidu said that the initiative of writers is very important for the preservation of the Telugu language and if the language is preserved, the tradition can be passed on to future generations through its literature. Along with the creation of new literature, the preservation of previous literature is also the responsibility of writers.

He emphasised the need to increase book reading, governments can formulate policies and provide funds for language and without the commitment of the people, language conservation and literature development are not possible.

A large number of writers, poets, linguists, and literati from different states and countries along with Andhra Pradesh and Telangana participated in the programme.
