The CPI and the CPM have made up their mind to enter into an electoral tie-up with the Congress, it is learnt. However, the Congress is thinking about how to go about seat sharing with the Left if there is an alliance with them.

It is learnt that the Congress high command is interested in an alliance with the Left in Telangana in view of the party’s national objectives. The Congress high command thinks that the support of the Left is essential to take on the BJP across the nation.

The CPI and the CPM are members of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) along with the Congress. INDIA was set up by secular parties to take on the BJP in the next general elections.

However, the Telangana Congress unit is facing a dilemma regarding the alliance with the Left as it fears that there could be dissidence in the party in the Assembly constituencies that are allocated to the Left. Some leaders like Ponnam Prabhakar had been asking the party to allocate the Husnabad seat to him which the CPI is demanding as he had applied for it.

Meanwhile, the Congress has been holding talks with the Left amidst many doubts. Already Telangana Congress in-charge Manikrao Thakre has held discussions with CPI leaders and said that they were only preliminary talks.

It is also learnt that the Congress is angry with the Left parties as they did not listen to its appeals when they forged an alliance with the BRS during the Munugode by-poll. Even now, the Left parties showed interest in an alliance with the Congress only after the BRS snapped ties with them.

A section of Telangana Congress leaders are interested in an alliance with the Left as the Left has the strength to decide the outcome in some constituencies across the State although they are not in a position to win on their own.

Meanwhile, Manikrao Thakre said on Monday that only the party high command will take a decision on alliances.

A Telangana Congress leader on condition of anonymity said that the Congress has to follow the high command’s decision regarding an alliance with the Left. Most probably there could be an alliance, he said.

In fact, it is learnt that the CPI and the CPM have decided to take revenge against the BRS by entering into an alliance with the Congress in the Assembly elections for deceiving them by snapping their tie-up without giving any hint.

It is learnt that there is a chance that the Left may compromise regarding seat sharing with the Congress in view of their national interests.
