Local body polls very soon: Revanth

Explaining to AICC General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal about the Congress government’s programmes in Telangana, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said the government is going to hold local body elections soon and that there is a need for party activists to take the government’s social welfare programmes to the people.
Attending the Telangana Congress Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting on Wednesday at the Gandhi Bhavan, the Chief Minister said the government had condoled former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh by holding a special Assembly session. The government also passed a unanimous resolution seeking Bharat Ratna for Manmohan Singh, he said. He said that the Telangana state was created when Manmohan Singh was Prime Minister and that the government had named a flyover constructed in the Old City after him.
The Chief Minister said the government is going to implement the Rythu Bharosa scheme from January 26. The government would also pay Rs 12,000 a year the families of agriculture labourers and issue new ration cards.
The government has already filled 55,143 posts in government service and waived farm loans amounting to Rs 21,000 crore. The government spent Rs 54,000 crore for the welfare of farmers in a year, he said.
The Chief Minister said the government is giving LPG cylinders for Rs 500 a piece and 200 units of free power a month to the poor. The government is providing free travel facility to women in TGSRTC buses and the government has paid Rs 4,000 crore for this till now, the CM added.
Earlier, the meeting paid tribute to Manmohan Singh by observing silence for two minutes.

Hanumantha Rao, K. Jana Reddy, T. Jeevan Reddy, Dr J. Geetha Reddy, T. Jagga Reddy, Azharuddin, Anjan Kumar Yadav, Shabbir Ali and others attended the meeting.
