The Lok Naik Foundation of Visakhapatnam has announced that Dr Indla Ramasubba Reddy, a distinguished psychiatrist and prolific writer based in Vijayawada, will be honoured with the prestigious Lok Naik Lifetime Achievement Award. The foundation, chaired by Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad, has been recognising eminent individuals in literature and various fields for the past 18 years.
Dr Reddy is set to receive the award in recognition of his remarkable contributions, both as a psychiatrist and a literary figure. With over 40 years of experience, he has treated thousands of individuals grappling with psychological problems. Simultaneously, his extensive literary work, including numerous books, columns, and articles, has played a pivotal role in educating the public about mental health. Dr. Reddy has been instrumental in dispelling misconceptions, addressing superstitions surrounding mental health, and working to eradicate the stigma associated with mental illnesses.
Dr Indla Rama Subba Reddy holds the distinction of being the first Telugu doctor to popularize the field of psychiatry, garnering respect and dignity for the discipline. His efforts have significantly contributed to raising awareness about mental health issues within the community.
The award ceremony is scheduled for January 18 in Visakhapatnam. This date coincides with the death anniversary of the late former Chief Minister NT Rama Rao and the death anniversary of Hari Vansh Rai Bachchan. Dr Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad, Chairman of the Lok Naik Foundation, announced that the award will include a cash prize of Rs 50,000, a medallion, and a certificate of appreciation.
Dr Indla Ramasubba Reddy’s dedication to the field is evident through his role as a Consultant Psychiatrist for over four decades in Vijayawada. He is also the Director of “Indlas” hospital for psychological diseases, recognized for the DNB, PG Medical Course in Psychiatry by the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi, for the past 15 years.
In addition to his contributions in Vijayawada, Dr Reddy serves as the Director of Indlas Child Guidance Clinic (ICGC) in Mumbai, Vijayawada, Hyderabad, and Visakhapatnam. He is also the Director of Indlas Shantivan, a 120-bedded Rehab and Deaddiction Centre in Nunna, Vijayawada Rural, the only one of its kind in Andhra Pradesh. This facility stands as the largest center addressing mental health and psychological issues in the state’s private sector, boasting an exclusive child psychiatry department and a deaddiction and rehabilitation center.
