Memorable day in TS’ history

Must read

This Sunday is going to be a big day in Telangana’s history. It is the day when we will know whether the people of Telangana have selected the “third” or the “first.”
The results of the Telangana Assembly polls will be declared on Sunday. Vote counting will start at 8 am.
While the BRS hopes for a hat-trick, the main opposition Congress hopes to come to power for the first time in Telangana.
The results of the Telangana Assembly election will be known by Sunday afternoon. After the counting of votes, we will know whether the people of Telangana have opted for the BRS for the third time or have given a chance to the Congress.
During the last two Assembly elections, the results were known even before counting as it was evident from the public mood. No one doubted the victory of the BRS in those two Assembly elections.
During the 2014 Assembly elections, the people of Telangana voted for the BRS under the impression that BRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao gained statehood for them. This was repeated in the 2018 Assembly elections when the Telangana sentiment came into play once again and the BRS came out victorious.
But in 2023 the situation is different. Unlike the last two Assembly elections, this time the Congress has given a tough fight to the BRS. But whether the Congress has been able to give a tough fight to the BRS or vice versa will be known only after the declaration of the results.
Going by exit polls, the Congress has an edge over the BRS in the Telangana Assembly elections. But the BRS has termed the exit polls as “nonsense” pointing to the exit polls conducted after the 2018 Assembly elections.
BRS Working President IT Minister KT Rama Rao expressed confidence about the BRS winning 70-plus seats. At the same time, TPCC President Revanth Reddy said that he was confident of the Congress winning around 80 seats.
If people elect the BRS, the BRS will create a record with its hat-trick victory in Telangana. If people vote for the Congress that too will be a record as the party will be coming back to power 10 years after Telangana became a state.
The current Assembly elections have become prestigious for the BRS and a life and death matter for the Congress. The BJP has been badly mauled in Telangana in the battle between the BRS and the Congress.
In the beginning, the BJP had succeeded in creating the hype that it is the main opposition by throwing the Congress into the third slot in by-elections and that the fight will be between the BRS and the BJP in the Telangana Assembly elections.
But after the Karnataka Assembly elections, the political equation in Telangana changed completely. The BJP’s graph came down suddenly and the Congress graph jumped. The Congress maintained this hype till the end of the campaign.
After the counting of votes, we will know whether the people have indeed shown the ‘exit’ to the BRS as predicted by exit polls or that the exit polls were wrong as claimed by BRS Working President KTR.
