Issuing a serious warning about food quality and adulteration, the Minister of Health, Medical and Family Welfare, and Science and Technology, Damodar Rajanarsimha, emphasised the need for regular workshops every six months to raise awareness
in the city. The Minister attended a meeting organised by the Telangana State Government’s Commissioner of Food Safety at the State Secretariat on Tuesday.
The Minister stated that strict action would be taken against those who indulged in adulteration of food or failed to maintain quality. He urged representatives of various associations to provide quality food to the public. He highlighted that Hyderabad Biryani has gained international recognition since the time of the Nizam and that Hyderabad is being developed as a medical tourism hub and urged to uphold the recognition.
The Minister also mentioned that Hyderabad’s reputation as the food capital of India is growing and urged hotel owners to act responsibly. Later on, the minister responded positively to many appeals made by hotel owners.
Associations such as the Telangana State Hotels Association, National Restaurants Association, Oil Merchants Association, Bar and Restaurants, Indian Dairy Milk Products Association, Telangana Packaged Drinking Water Association, Telangana Roller Flour Millers, and Bakery and Ice Creams Association participated in the meeting.
State Food Safety Commissioner RV Karnan, Director of Food Safety Dr. Shivalila, Telangana State Hotels Association President Venkat Reddy, Indian Restaurants Association President Sandeep, Indian Dairy Milk Products Association member Sultan Maskati, and association representatives Ramanjaneyulu, Rajasekhar, and Manish Gupta were also present.
