In a heartfelt initiative, Shadnagar MLA Veerlapalli Shankar arranged free midday meals for 840 students at the Government Junior College at Shadnagar  in Rangareddy district on Tuesday. This three-month programme, funded entirely by the MLA, is aimed at alleviating the struggles faced by students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and motivating them to focus on their education.
At the programme launch, Veerlapalli Shankar shared his own journey, recounting how he overcame hardships to pursue higher education.
“I walked six kilometers every day to study and depended on midday meals when I was the Intermediate student. With diligence and determination that I reached this level today,” he said.
He emphasised that his initiative was designed to ensure that no student has to endure the difficulties he once faced.
The MLA further advised students to study with passion, score top ranks, and bring pride to their families, lecturers, and college. He stressed the importance of building a better future for themselves and for society, reminding them that “today’s students are tomorrow’s citizens.”
Quoting APJ Abdul Kalam as an inspiration, he highlighted how even those from humble beginnings could achieve great heights through perseverance and education. Veerlapalli Shankar also urged students to see beyond caste and religion, focusing instead on the lessons of unity and excellence.
The event was attended by lecturers, former students, journalists, and local leaders, who praised the MLA’s efforts to support education. Former students and senior journalists shared their experiences, motivating the students to work hard and achieve their goals. Lecturers also encouraged students to study diligently and aim for top ranks.
Residents of the constituency expressed their gratitude for the initiative, acknowledging the MLA’s commitment to the welfare and bright future of the students. Veerlapalli Shankar’s gesture underscores his dedication to fostering education and his vision for a “Bangaru Telangana,” where no student is left behind.
