Monument for Veerappan sparks a controversy

A monument commemorating the notorious poacher and smuggler Veerappan was unveiled at Abakaloddi village in Santhipuram mandal, Kuppam constituency on Monday, sparking yet another controversy.
Reportedly erected by people said to be admiring Veerappan, the memorial monument drew participation from various leaders including YSRCP Chittoor district president and MLC Bharat. The unveiling ceremony featured a flag adorned with Veerappan’s image, adding to the contentious nature of the event.
K M Veerappan, known for his involvement in poaching, smuggling and domestic terrorism spanning 36 years, faced charges related to sandalwood smuggling and elephant poaching across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala. He was killed in an encounter.
