Monumental neglect of monument to Indira Gandhi

Must read

In Indiramma Rajyam, Indira Priyadarshini Auditorium, known as a cultural hub since its inauguration in 1980, is now a shadow of its former self due to negligence by the previous state government. Nestled in the serene ambience of the Public Gardens at Nampally, Indira Priyadarshini Auditorium is named after late Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. It stands as a testament to cultural vibrancy and artistic excellence in the heart of the city.
The inauguration of the auditorium marked a significant milestone in Hyderabad’s cultural landscape. Over the years, it hosted countless performances ranging from classical music to dance recitals, theatrical productions and seminars, enriching the cultural tapestry of the city. Its architecture seamlessly blends modern functionality with traditional aesthetics. Its spacious interiors, comfortable seating arrangements, and state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems provide a delightful experience to both performers and audiences alike.
The stage, adorned with intricate designs and equipped with advanced technical facilities, serves as a perfect canvas for artistes to showcase their talents.
Apart from that, the auditorium also holds corporate inaugurations, free medical camps for workers and senior citizens and many more.
The auditorium which has been a platform or meeting point for artistes, performers and art enthusiasts have now lost its significance due to a lack of renovation.
According to social activist Mohammed Abid Ali, “During 2012, when Kiran Kumar Reddy was the Chief Minister in the combined Andhra Pradesh, it was renovated for the first and last time.
For the past four to five years, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, the previous government had completely neglected it. The auditorium which is known for its cultural significance fades away and cries for attention.
