The Kanti Velugu programme launched across TS revealed that myopia is common in Telangana after screening 43.83 lakh people.
Medical experts analysed figures recorded in the camps and found that the number of people who have problems seeing things near them is high.
The report revealed that long sight was common among people aged above 40. Kanti Velugu camps also provide free reading glasses to such people immediately. So far, 8.42 lakh people have received reading eye glasses. Vitamin A, D and B complex tablets are also distributed to people who visit the camps with eye problems.
The report said that cataract was common among people aged above 50. Medical staff said that information about the time of treatment will be conveyed to those who need surgery through a voicemail.
The state government launched the Kanti Velugu programme on January 19. It will continue across the state as a 100-day camp. Collectors, medical and health officials and officials of various departments have been implementing advanced plans, continuous monitoring, daily reviews, analysis, video conference and meetings to correct deficiencies from time to time.
People have been expressing satisfaction over the services provided at the camp. Sunitha Venkatesh Goud, the MPP from Chityala, Nalgonda District, said, “I got eye glasses after eye tests. The quality of the glasses is good. Many people who through their eyes were fine are able to realise early stage issues and resolve them. Special arrangements have been made for those coming to the examination centre so that they do not face difficulties. On behalf of all the people of Chityala Mandal, I would like to express my gratitude to Chief Minister KCR for undertaking such a programme.”
