Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare J Nivas inaugurated the ‘Care Companion’ programme for AP State Medical Officers (master trainers) and also released educational material flip charts, in Vijayawada on Wednesday. Four medical officers from 26 districts of two batches participated in the two-day programme conducted by the AP National Health Mission (Health and Family Welfare Department) and Noora Health.
This programme aims to train and educate mothers along with caregivers accompanying them throughout their recovery period. The concept was firstly introduced into the MCH area and was rolled out in 260 hospitals across the State. Further the expansion of the programme was planned together with the Andhra Pradesh State National Health Mission and technical support from Noora Health to implement the programme in different healthcare areas in the community.
Nivas added that the entire primary healthcare works majorly on five components maternal and newborn health, child and adolescent health, and NCD. Primary healthcare centres engage within the communities to take preventive measures in these five health components and support people on behavioural change for better health indicators. Through the ‘Care Companion’ programme, the State is going to introduce four novel and people-centric teaching aids for child and adolescent health, maternal health (antenatal care-ANC & Postnatal care-PNC), and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD).
Nivas emphasised how the flip chart would be a very powerful tool and effective to capture the attention of the community and how the NCD flip chart was widely used to educate and spread awareness within the community in the States Jagananna Arogya Suraksha campaign (JAS Camps).
