Chief Minister of Telangana A Revanth Reddy has decided to frame the Telangana sports policy so that every student from the remotest school level can participate in at least one sport.
Accordingly, the State-level committee meeting was held on Wednesday at Hyderabad Tourism Plaza to draft a strong sports policy to prepare and encourage talented athletes who will bring recognition to the State at the national and international level.
The draft was read out to the participants and then the floor was welcome to the feedback. The members have discussed that this draft policy will be presented to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and he will introduce the sports policy in Telangana.
  The sports policy would have nine pillars, namely Government and Organisation, Financial Support, Sports Facilities/ Training Institution, Infra Development, Long-term athlete development (L TAD), Sporting Competitions, Sports Inclusivity, Sports Research Innovation and Data Management, Athlete education, Employment and Awareness and finally Incentives, Facilities and Felicitation.
In Governance – A Telangana State Sports Development Advisory Committee will be formed.
Then the importance was the appointment of women sports ambassadors in different regions.
 The meeting on Wednesday revealed that the Draft Policy proposal was framed looking at insights from neighbouring states of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, UK and the USA, among others.
 The details of the Draft Policy are that a dedicated fund known as Development Fund was proposed in it. Creation and upgradation of infrastructure through PPP mode and a focus sports for the State so that the training is in terms of its institutions. Setting up of sports schools, sports academies and sports science centres in districts was also mooted.
 Much of the discussion was on long-term athletic development, which must have active start and fundamentals. This should be learning to train, train to compete and train to win.
 On the age groups suggested are sports nurseries may have 4 years to 8 years, sports schools can have 8 years to 15 years to help talent identification.
 The members have requested that the government should sign MoU’s with global sports facilitators and academics training for encouraging the sports youngsters.  There should be a competition at mandal, district, State, national and international for both athletes and para-athletes every year.
 It was elaborated that awards and incentives are a must.
Felicitation to sportspersons, coaches and then conducting award shows every year in the sports category. It was suggested to collaborate with sports startups from T-Hub.
 The members and officials who attended and collected the feedback on Wednesday, assured that the sports policy will be out very soon.
