In all, 30 town planning officers from Jharkhand visited Neknampur Lake which has received Niti Ayog model for best practices, to study the Integrated Floating Wetland Technology that was implemented in the lake by the Dhruvanch Organisation on Wednesday.
Madhulika S Choudhary, Founder of the Dhruvansh organisation said, “The basic motivation behind this technology is if we divert the waste the lakes become dry. In Hyderabad, we don’t have different pipelines for stormwater and sewage water. There are more buildings around the lake. In these cases, the only source of the lake water is sewage water. So if you divert it, the lake will get dried and the place will be used for real estate purposes. We don’t have any place for Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs). Moreover, in the majority of lakes, the STPs with seasonal plants are constructed at the Full Tank Level (FTL) of the lake. So, during the monsoon, especially during June -November, we have only a few STPs. They don’t clean the water as they are under the water, especially at the FTL level. Hence, they don’t work. Due to these reasons, we have implemented a nature-based technology known as the Integrated Floating Wetland Technology in 2018.”

In regards to the functioning of the technology, she said, “We let the sewage water come inside the lake and treat it using nature-based solutions thereby making the environment odor-free and biodiversity-friendly.’’
