Officials directed to prepare voters list transparently

District Electoral Roll Observer B Sridhar directed the officials concerned to prepare the voters lists maintaining transparency and include the names of all who crossed 18 years of age in the voters list.
Electoral Roll Officer B Sridhar held a meeting with district in-charge Collector B Lavanya Veni, EROs, AEROs of seven constituencies and representatives of recognized political parties here on Wednesday on photo voters list brief amendment 2024 and reviewed the brief amendment of voters list. In-charge Collector B Lavanya Veni gave a PowerPoint presentation in this regard.
Speaking on the occasion, Roll Observer B Sridhar said that in order to prepare a list of authentic voters, meetings are often held with representatives of recognized political parties and problems are resolved immediately, if any. By January 1, 2024, everyone who attained 18 years of age should be registered as a voter.
The responsibility lies on the officials to organize programmes and register students who have completed 18 years of age as voters in all educational institutions. As there is still time for voter registration, AEROs and special AEROs should focus on this matter, Sridhar told them. The final lists of voters should be announced by January 5, 2024, he said and asked to organize a special campaign on December 2 and 3 to receive claims and objections.
He said that the BLOs have been appointed for each polling station and the TDP and YSRCP parties have appointed booth level agents. On October 27th, the draft list of voters was released and soft and hard copies were given to the recognized political parties, Sridhar made it clear. Complaints received from various political parties should be investigated at the field level and resolved in accordance with the provisions of the EC, he told the election officials.
Any minor complaint received should be scrutinized very carefully and resolved properly as per the guidelines of the Election Commission. The deadline for receipt of claims and objections on voter lists is December 9 and they should be resolved by December 26, the Roll Observer said.
District in-charge collector B. Lavanya Veni said that there are 3 revenue divisions, 28 mandals, 7 assembly constituencies and one parliamentary constituency in Eluru district and the population of the district is 21,35,149. As per the schedule of revision of voters lists, the draft lists were announced by 27th of last month.
As per this, the total voters in Eluru district are 15,88,622 of which 7,78,884 men voters, 8,09,615 women voters and 123 third gender voters. So far 1,95,122 claims have been received of which 1,85,052 claims have been resolved. YSRCP leader K Sambha, TDP leader Pali Prasad, Nerasu Nelaraju (BJP), M Ravi (CPM) and R Rammohan Rao (Cong.) were among those who attended the meeting.
