The ruling Congress government in Telangana and the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) are headed for a showdown over conflicting claims relating to the implementation of the loan waiver scheme for farmers. During a press meet at the Telangana Bhavan here on Wednesday, BRS working president KT Rama Rao launched a scathing attack on the Congress government, accusing Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of misleading the public and farmers by making grand promises relating to loan waivers and not delivering them. KTR pointed to significant discrepancies in the government’s narrative, highlighting that the Chief Minister had declared the “completion of the loan waiver process”, while ongoing protests by farmers mirrored a different story altogether. He criticized the reduction in the originally promised Rs. 40,000 crore funds towards loan waiver to a mere Rs. 7,500 crore, due to which most farmers had been left high and dry without the promised relief.
