Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan remarked, “History shows that the Kumbh Mela has been celebrated for thousands of years. While reading The Autobiography of a Yogi, I came across descriptions of the Kumbh Mela. For nearly three decades, I have been observing the Kumbh Mela. Though I wished to attend every time, it wasn’t possible. Today, I feel immense joy in being part of the Maha Kumbh Mela.”
On Tuesday evening, Pawan Kalyan and Anna Konidela attended the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, where they took part in the sacred baths and later performed puja at the Triveni Sangam. Others, including Akira Nandan, Trivikram, and Anand Sai, also joined in the ritual.
Speaking to the media, Pawan Kalyan stated, “Despite the vast diversity of races, tribes, and traditions among Indians, there is unity in the practice of Sanatan Dharma. Just as unity in diversity strengthens the nation, a similar unity exists among Indians in their adherence to Dharma. ‘Sanatan Dharma’ has thrived for thousands of years, and it must continue to prosper in the future. It is extraordinary that nearly half the country’s population has gathered for the Kumbh Mela. No other event of such magnitude has been seen globally. It is celebrated as a grand festival by everyone who practices Sanatan Dharma. It is truly remarkable to witness devotees from every corner of the country coming together for the sacred baths.”
Pawan Kalyan also expressed concern over the unfortunate incidents during the Maha Kumbh Mela, where over 50 million sacred baths were performed over 50 days
“It is irresponsible for some leaders to make careless remarks about those observing ‘Sanatan Dharma’ during such times. The Yogi Adityanath government has implemented a well-planned approach to organise the Maha Kumbh Mela. When large crowds gather, unfortunate incidents can occur. It is inappropriate to blame the sanctity of Sanatan Dharma for such events or make sweeping comments about its traditions. Would political leaders react the same way if similar incidents occurred at events for other religions?”
“When any unfortunate event happens, it’s easy to comment. However, when incidents occur during Hindu traditions or Sanatan Dharma events, leaders are quick to react. Despite the police and officials coordinating efforts and ensuring adequate facilities, unexpected incidents can still happen, which is regretful. Even with thorough arrangements before the recent incidents, unforeseen circumstances led to stampedes. It would be better to understand the situation and respond appropriately, no matter where unfortunate incidents take place. It is inappropriate to make remarks that undermine the sentiments of those who follow Sanatan Dharma,” he concluded.
