Plea to release two TMC ft of water into Vana Durga project

Must read

Farmers of Vana Durga Project at Ghanpur in Medak district, the only project in the district, have been demanding that the Irrigation Minister order the release of two tmc ft of water to the project from Singur Project to irrigate 50,000 acres.
The project irrigates 24,560 acres in Vanakalam and Yasangi under Fateh Nahar and Mahabub Nahar canals directly. Annually during the monsoon season, irrigation officials hold a meeting of the ayacut farmers with the District Collector in chair. However, this year the meeting was not conducted causing a concern to the farmers.
When the matter was brought to the notice of MLA Mynampally Rohit Rao, he immediately addressed a letter to Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy seeking release of two tmc ft of water to Ghanpur project from Singuru Project. But, the Irrigation officials have apparently not moved by the demand. They have been adopting dilly-dallying tactics on the pretext of the Singur project reservoir is not full.
MLC Seri Subhash Reddy raised the issue on the floor of the Legislative Council and quoted the example of how the previous government got water released from the Singuru project in spite of the fact that the project was not full. He appealed to the Congress government to release water to the Ghanpur project so that over 50,000 acres could be irrigated both directly and indirectly.
Generally the farmers cultivate crops under bore wells on either side of Manjira river.
Therefore, the farmers appeal to the collector to hold a meeting with him in chair and take steps to release water from the Singuru project to Vana Durga project.
