District Collector V Prasanna Venkatesh has said that the State government is giving priority to the welfare of fishermen and implementing various schemes for them.
The Collector congratulated the fishermen at a programme organised here on Monday on the occasion of World Fishermen’s Day. On the occasion, several representatives of fishermen’s cooperative societies presented flower bouquets to the Collector here on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that the government is already implementing three welfare schemes through YSR Matsya Bharosa. He said that the government has taken steps to substantially improve the economic and living conditions of fishermen, adding that there are 239 fisheries cooperatives in the district and about 21,678 members are members.
“In the current year, 5.15 crore fish have been caught and 23.30 lakh fingerlings have been produced in Badampudi Government Fish ponds by the Fisheries Department.”, the Collector informed.
He said that many schemes are being implemented for fishermen through Matsya sampada Yojana by the fisheries department. He said that as part of the development of aquaculture, the government has provided electricity tariff concessions to the aqua farmers.
Assistant Director of Fisheries Department G Rajesh Bhimadole Mandal Sayannapalem Fishery Cooperative Society President Amritaraju, Denduluru Mandal Kovvali Jyoti Fishery Cooperative Society president K David and Nidamarru mandal Tokalapudi Vaddi Fisheries Cooperative Society president Saidu Nagaraju were present, other Fishermen participated.
