Despite the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Telangana rescheduling the Summative Assessment (SA)-II exam for Class 1 to Class 9 from April 8 to April 15, a majority of private schools affiliated to Telangana State syllabus in the city have planned to conduct the final exam before the schedule date.
Instead of giving government question papers to Classes 6 to 8, schools have planned to conduct exams with their own (school-made) question papers. As the school authorities have already issued hall tickets to the students, they decided to conduct exams as per earlier schedule which was from April 8 while a few of them planned to conduct exams from April 10.
Apart from this, every year many private schools have conducted Class IX exams before the education department released the exam timetable. They have been violating the rules because the education department is reluctant to form a regulatory committee to watch and inspect the school activities.
“It is an unethical practice that private schools are following, let it be on increasing fees or purchase of textbooks or conduct of examinations. Despite the education department revising the timetable, my daughter’s school sent a message that the school will hold exams from April 10. When we inquired with the school management, they said it is a private institute; they would follow their own rules,” said Ramesh, whose daughter studies in Class VII of one of the private schools in Nampally.
“It is very surprising every time private schools follow their own norms, without thinking of children’s health, in this scorching heat, children are forced to go to the school to write exams. My son’s school last week only issued hall tickets. So, despite the education department postponing the exams, they have planned to conduct exams from April 8,” said a parent.
