I was born in Rajahmundry to Meda Venkata Bhojaratnam, a landlord and Padmavathi, a homemaker. Later, I was adopted by my maternal grandmother’s sister, Kandula Someswara Rao and Ranganayakamma. I have a brother and three sisters. My brother, Gurudatt, runs an NGO, while my sisters–Meena Kumari is a retired teacher, Subbayamma is a homemaker and Annapurna is an advocate. They have all been very affectionate and supportive of me. My adopted mother was very disciplined and systematic in raising me, instilling values that have shaped my life. I pursued my graduation from VT College in Rajahmundry and later completed my post-graduation at BNR College in Bhimavaram.
Tradition of Visiting Jangareddygudem
Every summer during the holidays, all our cousins would visit Jangareddygudem, where my maternal grandfather served as a government doctor. These summer holidays remain some of my fondest memories. We would often visit the fields, play in the borewell water and take baths in the cool, refreshing streams. The visits to the mango, coconut and sweet orange farms were always special. Even after marriage, I continue to visit Jangareddygudem with my children, cherishing the village backdrop and passing on these precious memories.
Caught Smoking, But Guided with Wisdom
An incident from my college days was when I decided to try smoking a cigarette and was caught by my uncle. He reported it to my mother, who, instead of scolding me, guided me with wisdom and understanding. Her approach led to a transformation and since then, I have never touched a cigarette or developed a habit of drinking.
