From writer to director, filmmaker Ramesh Cheppala’s journey so far in the Telugu film industry has been very rewarding. He has been one of the few film writers to receive nine prestigious awards for one of his films, Mee Sreyobhilashi, for best dialogue writing.
He has to his credit many hit films of those times, namely Kabaddi Kabaddi, Mee Sreyobhilashi, Kausalya Supraja Rama, and Gowtam SSC, among others. His passion for creating characters and narrating stories made him don the director’s hat, and his recent film Bheemaderavapally Branchi received an overwhelming response from critics. Ramesh Cheppala is now back with another film titled Laggam. Currently in the production phase, Ramesh shared exclusively with The Pioneer about the film, which stars the legendary Rajendra Prasad in the lead role. He said, “In my next film, Laggam, the grandeur of Telangana wedding tradition is exquisitely captured through a singular cinematic experience. In the middle of the extravagant festivities, the story explores the ties that bind families together by diving into the complex emotions that are shared among them. My goal in narrating this narrative is to add layers of complexity and significance to the audience’s viewing experience while also conveying some subtle but important lessons.”
He confessed that Laggam stands out as the most challenging project he has done so far in his career, as he wanted to authentically portray the essence of a traditional Telangana Indian wedding, maintaining its grandeur while delicately navigating the complexities of familial relationships. “My aspiration is to create a cinematic experience so immersive and realistic that audiences will feel as though they are witnessing their own family’s wedding unfold on screen. This film promises to be an exhilarating journey, brimming with youthful energy, heartfelt portrayals of true love, intricate family dynamics, rich cultural elements, and the timeless values that bind families together. It delves into a spectrum of emotions, capturing both the highs and lows of human experiences. This project is my heartfelt offering to audiences who consistently demonstrate an appreciation for quality storytelling and meaningful content in cinema,” he shared. In the interim, he expressed his gratitude for making Bheemaderavapally Branchi a success because, for him, it was a film that has been a journey in itself with fresh talents and modest resources.
However, Ramesh is also an author who has three bestselling novels to his credit: Bombay Doll, Maa Kanaparthy Mushaira, and Sri Raja Rajeswari Yatra Special, and he shared with us that he is eagerly anticipating the release of his forthcoming book of stories, Kathala Manduva, scheduled for April, which promises to deliver a similarly enriching experience for readers.
