Minister for Education, Botsa Satyanarayana, has released the list of eligible candidates for admission into the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge and Technology (RGUKT), popularly known as the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) campuses, in Vijayawada on Thursday.
The IIIT campuses are located in Nuzvid, RK Valley (Idupulapaya), Ongole, and Srikakulam in the State.
A total of 4,400 seats will be filled across these four campuses through the counselling process.
The applications received for these seats amounted to 38,355, and the counselling for the qualified candidates will be conducted by RGUKT from July 20 to 25 at the Nuzvid, RK Valley (Idupulapaya), and Srikakulam campuses. Out of the 4,400 seats, 63.98% are reserved for girls, while 36.01% are reserved for boys.
Speaking to media persons on the occasion, Botsa Satyanarayana said that admissions for the 2023-24 academic year would be granted based on the students’ marks in the School of Secondary Education (SSC) and roster points.
Among the total number of applications, 23,628 (83%) were from students studying in government schools, while the remaining 14,727 students were from private schools.
The Minister expressed his satisfaction with the number of applications received and highlighted that one student who scored 599 out of 600 marks had applied for the IIIT course. He attributed this to the reputation and appeal of the 6-year integrated course. Additionally, he mentioned that the highest mark obtained among all the applications was 599, and the cut-off mark for the general category was 583. He proudly stated that students from government schools dominated the top 20 eligible candidates’ list, underscoring the excellence of government schools.
Furthermore, Botsa Satyanarayana emphasised that the State government prioritises education, health, agriculture, and welfare, with education being the primary focus. He announced that the vacant professor positions would be filled at all IIIT campuses, and tenders would be invited for the construction of the building at the Ongole campus. He assured that the government would take swift action to complete the construction of the buildings.
Counselling schedule
The RGUKT will conduct counselling for admissions to the four IIIT campuses in the state from July 20 to 25. Counselling for the Nuzvid campus will be held at Nuzvid on July 20 and 21. For the RK Valley campus, counselling will take place at RK Valley (Idupulapaya) on July 21 and 22. The counselling for the Ongole campus is scheduled for July 24 and 25 at RK Valley (Idupulapaya), and for the Srikakulam campus, it will be held in Srikakulam on July 24 and 25.
PhD programme: from next academic year
Education Minister Botsa Satyanarayana disclosed that the State government intends to introduce a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) course at all RGUKT campuses in the State. He recalled that former chief minister of combined Andhra Pradesh, Dr. YS Rajasekhar Reddy, laid the foundation for the IIIT course to provide IT education for rural students.
Following the vision of Dr. YSR, present Chief Minister, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has been developing the IIIT campuses and has introduced the M.Tech course (Post Graduation) in the IIITs.
The Minister revealed that Jagan aims to launch PhD courses starting from the next academic year.
